that registration is now open for interested riders who would like to take the widely respected

British Horse Society (BHS) Stage 1 Exam. The Al Forsan Equestrian Centre, a learning center

certified by BHS, will conduct the examination on Tuesday, November 3rd from 8:00am to

6:00pm and will run full training prior to the examination.

The BHS Stage 1 Exam can be taken by adults 15 years and older. The exam will be based in two

sections including (a) the ride and horse knowledge section and (b) care section. To be

successful in the ride section, the rider must be able to ride a schooled horse in a balanced and

sympathetic manor. They will have sound basic principles and skills in riding horses on the flat

and over poles in the light seat. In addition, the rider must be able to walk and trot without

stirrups showing a balanced secure seat. On the other hand, to be successful in the horse

Riders need to undergo pre-assessment before taking the exam, and are required to attend

training and do home study. They also need to have the correct riding uniform and take routine

daily tasks with the horses. Full cost for the training including BHS handbook and examination is

AED 16,800 per rider. This will cover 80 hours of sessions conducted five hours a day, five days

a week in four weeks and headed by a qualified BHS instructor.

If the candidate is successful, he or she will receive the BHS Stage 1 Riding and Care certificate,

an internationally recognized qualification in the equestrian business and the first step on the

professional ladder. This qualification provides a sound foundation, giving the knowledge and

skills to progress into employment and for future learning and development. It would also

enable candidates to move on to BHS Stage 2 in future.
